Overview
Cake Cafe, a Brazilian bakery, takes pride in serving its local community with delicious custom cakes and desserts. Catering to a variety of occasions, they aim to simplify the dessert ordering process for adults seeking customized treats for their special celebrations.
Goal
Create an app that streamlines the process of ordering personalized desserts, improving the way customers interact with the bakery. With a user-friendly interface, the app will provide a guided, hassle-free experience.
Research
To start I did a competitive analysis to understand what products were already out there and the opportunities I could explore. Here's what I learned:
Let's Meet Our Users
I interviewed frequent bakery buyers who order desserts at least once every month to learn about their motivations, habits, and ordering pain points. My goal was to:
Identify common difficulties individuals encounter when ordering desserts, especially for events and parties.
Identify prevalent frustrations people encounter while navigating the ordering process at bakeries.
Lo-fis
Time to incorporate findings from research and empathy exercises into the design to prioritize time-saving solutions. Users seek informed decisions without feeling overwhelmed by choices. The design should feature an intuitive process, enabling users to effortlessly build their ideal dessert order.
Insights from testing
I conducted a usability study with six participants, who place orders from a bakery every 2 months on average. Using my low-fidelity prototype, participants were instructed to:
From the home screen, start an order.
Customize the chosen dessert with flavors/sizes.
Add a second dessert to the cart.
4. Upload an image and/or describe the dessert you want.
5. Review order details, select pickup date/time, and check out.
6. Share overall feelings about the app, including likes and dislikes.
Feedback analysis revealed that the main process that required improvement was ordering/customization.
